Beyond Dancing Shadows is an experimental typography design project that reimagines
and revitalizes the intangible cultural heritage of traditional Chinese shadow puppetry and opera.
Inspired by the overlapping skeletal structures of shadow puppets,
the project introduces a custom-designed typeface rooted in cultural symbolism.

The design incorporates five core elements: Wurenmang (Five Busy Men),
the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire, earth), and five color schemes.
Using five different-sized circles as the foundation,
the curves and lines of the typeface pay homage to the intricate craftsmanship of shadow puppets.

This project extends beyond typography into live performances and projection experiments,
showcasing shadow fonts in dynamic, immersive ways.
A documentary publication accompanies the project,
narrating the creative process and exploring the integration of traditional art forms with modern design techniques.
